Obwohl das Debut-Album der Schweden noch wesentlich mehr im Death Metal verwurzelt war, kommt der Nachfolger "Those of the unlight" als lupenreine "Black Metal-Breitseite" und gehört für viele Anhänger zu den besten Veröffentlichungen von Marduk. Allein der Song "Wolves" rechtfertigt die Höchstnote für den Album-Klassiker.
„Dark endless“ weißt zwar schon schwarzmetallische Züge auf, ist aber klanglich und kompositorisch noch sehr vom Death Metal beeinflusst. Mit „Those of the unlight“ erheben sich Marduk 1993 als die Vorreiter des Schweden-Black Metal nach Bathory.
