Die Grammy Award-Gewinner und Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame-Rekruten Metallica sind die offiziellen Schirmherren des Record Store Days am 16. April 2016.
„Die Independent Record Stores sind ein Part von Metallica´s DNA (…) Wir könnten nicht stolzer sein, dieses Jahr die Botschafter für den Record Store Day zu sein…“, so Schlagzeuger Lars Ulrich. Im Rahmen des diesjährigen Reocrd Store Days, veröffentlicht die Band am Freitag, den 16.04. zwei exklusive Deluxe Box Sets ihrer beiden Alben „Kill ‘Em All“ und „Ride The Lightning“. Ein Deluxe Box Set beinhaltet jeweils ausgewähltes Originalmaterial aus der Kollektion der Band. Unter anderem werden viele unbekannte und vorher nie gesehene Aufzeichnungen und Bücher mit seltenen Fotos und Notizen der Band in der Box sein.
Das nummerierte Deluxe Set des Albums „Ride The Lightning“ beinhaltet 4 Vinyle (Remastered Album, Live Show „Live At The Hollywood Palladium“ (2LP), „Creeping Death“-(Picture Disc), 6 CDs (Remastered Album, Interview, Demos & rough Mixes, 4x Live Shows ), 1 DVD (Live Show „Live At The Metal Hammer Festival”, Live Show „Live At MTV’s Day On The Green”, Danish TV Special), 1 Buch (72 Seiten mit noch ungesehenen Fotos) und 1 Mini-Buch mit handgeschriebenen Lyrics von James Hetfield. Außerdem enthält das Deluxe Box Set 3 Poster.
